With National Volunteer Week kicking off today, Barnstoneworth United FC would like to take the opportunity to highlight the immense amount of work that goes on behind the scenes by our dedicated volunteers; from the day-to-day to matchdays at the Gray…

Cheers to our volunteers!

How long have you volunteered at the club?

I started as a cone collector when my son joined the U10s. He is 21 now so I have been volunteering in some way for 12 years.

Tell us one thing your club peers might not know about you?

possibly based on the number of evenings and time at the weekend that I am down at the club helping out, people would be surprised that I have a wonderful wife and 2 amazing children 😂😂

Otherwise, people would not know that as a junior I played representative rugby union against Japan ( many, many years ago).

The theme of this years volunteer week is ‘something for everyone’ what have you enjoyed the most about volunteering your time at the club?

I have really enjoyed seeing a number of junior players that I remember as U8 and 9s starting to get spots in the senior teams for the club.

What would be one thing you would recommend about the club for someone who is thinking of volunteering

This is a great community club. It caters for all levels, girls, boys, U7s through to o45s, All Abilities to A grade. To do all this it needs lots of little things to be done, by older players and parents that do have a whole range of skills. Just need to ask – start by collecting the cones.

How long have you been a member of the club?

I am proud to say that I am a Founder Member of this Great Club

How long have you volunteered at the club?

I have been a Volunteer since the very beginning except for a few years hiatus. I was the Treasurer for the majority of that time and more recently as Team Manager for the Seniors.

Never miss an episode of Eastenders & Coronation Street.

The theme of this years volunteer week is ‘something for everyone’ what have you enjoyed the most about volunteering your time at the club?

I have enjoyed watching this Club grow with not only my contribution but that of the many others who have been on our long journey and have got us to where we are today from our very humble beginnings, also there is a sense of belonging and affiliation associated with Volunteer work

What would be one thing you would recommend about the club for someone who is thinking of volunteering

This is a great Family orientated Club which focuses on Charity contributions and helping members within the Club in times of need, a great satisfaction can be obtained by putting one’s hand up to Volunteer,

no matter what the role.

How long have you been a member of the club?
Since the Seniors club inception in 1989

How long have you volunteered at the club?
As the club is a charity “first” club, everyone has a role to play in this. So, from day one back in 1989 we all had jobs to do outside of the football pitch. I suppose what I’m saying is for a fair while now.

Tell us one thing your club peers might not know about you?

I was a single figure handicap at golf when I was a teenager.

The theme of this year’s volunteer week is ‘something for everyone’ what have you enjoyed the most about volunteering your time at the club?

My youngest daughter is now playing at my beloved club and setting an example to the next generation of what you can do for the club is extremely important. Thongs don’t just happen by themselves, sometimes you, yourself have to stand up!

What would be one thing you would recommend about the club for someone who is thinking of volunteering

I have friends from the club that all have volunteered throughout the last 35 years and these will be friends for life. When you volunteer, you’ll find common interests with others and if you’re as lucky as me you’ll find these lifelong friends too.
